A South Pacific expedition discovers a tropical island where natives worship the enigmatic deity, Gappa. They discover a colossal egg in an underground cavern, from which a baby "bird-lizard" monster emerges. Disregarding the warnings of the islanders, they transport the creature to Japan, setting in motion a catastrophic chain of events, as Mama and Papa Gappa wreak havoc in Tokyo in search of their offspring.
